Asian Persimmon (Diospyros kaki)

   

Exposure: Full sun to half shade. Zone 6b, with proper siting, to Zone 9.
Soil: Can handle a wide range of soils, but good drainage is a must.
Growth habits: Grows 20 to 35 feet.
Landscape uses: Forms an umbrella canopy without pruning. Fall colors are dramatic red and gold.
Usefulness: Astringent varieties have a soft fruit with a distinct, sweet taste; non-astringent varieties, such as “Fuyu," may be eaten while firm.

Fuyu - A non-astringent variety with round sweet flesh and good fall color. 5 gal. @ $36.00.

Nikita's Gift - A Ukranian cross between American and Asian Persimmons. Nikita’s Gift is a naturally dwarf tree that bears delectably sweet 2 1/2” fruit in the fall. Hardy to at least –10 F. Nikita’s gift is available in 7 gal. Containers @ $45.00.
