Passionflower (Passiflora incarnata)

   

Plant Characteristics: Perennial, deciduous woody vine can grow up to 30 feet in one season. Fragrant purple flowers are outrageously beautiful in summer then produce edible yellow fruits call Maypops.  Grows in relatively poor sandy and acidic soils, likes southern exposure, add fertilizer for healthier plants. Good drainage.
Harvest: Flower, leaves, vines when in flower or at end of season before frost.
Primary Benefits: Gently hypnotic, insomnia, nervousness, aphrodisiac, lovely unique flowers. Good vertical element in edible landscape design when trellised.
