Comfrey (Sumphytun officinale)

 

Plant Characteristics: Perennial. Prefers rich fertile and moist soil. Grows up to 3 feet spreading. Sun to part shade.
Harvest: Harvest leaves up to 10 times a year starting in the spring. Harvest roots in fall or spring.
Primary Benefits: Good for bruises, torn ligaments, strains, and injury to bones or joints. Teas and salves.
Caution: Leaves and roots contain pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PA) which has been link to liver disease if consumed on a regular basis. Roots are higher in PAs.
