Chamomile, German (matricaria recutita)

   

Plant Characteristics: Overwintering annual, self seeding. Grow as a grass alternative, likes sun. Easy to grow, lovely.
Harvest: Flowers
Primary Benefits: Chamomile flowers have a long history of use as a medicine and beverage tea. Excellent for children with growing pains, belly aches, teething pain. Has a pleasant taste. Mix half and half with apple juice for children to help them calm down. Can prevent or relieve colic in nursing infants when consumed by the mother. It is just as good for stressed out adults. Relieves PMS and menopausal mood swings, acid reflux, heartburn, hiccups. Combine with catnip, hops or valerian for stress-induced gastro-intestinal symptoms.
