| |
|
Plant Characteristics: Biennial or short lived perennial. Imagine a guardian angel in the form of a plant – that is Angelica. This “angel of the garden” protects soils and other plants. Spherical umbels of flowers yellow-green in the second year, up to 3-6 feet in height. Part shade to full sun. Likes rich, moist, poorly drained soil. Can grow in all temperate zones. Blooms in early summer. Self sows easily. Plant with stinging nettle to increase oil content.
Harvest: Seeds, stems (candied) and roots in first or second year.
Primary Benefits: Bountiful and stately in the apothecary garden. Bitter aromatic, antimicrobial. Good for indigestion, coughs, colds. Warming, stimulates circulation and is useful for asthma and bronchitis.
3-4" pots $4, second year plants $6
